Big Inning for St. Francis Dooms Dogs

Cougars score seven in the third for 11-6 win

The Alabama A&M baseball team suffered through a seven-run third inning on the defensive end as St. Francis (Ind.) swept the second of a two-game series, 11-6. For the second day in a row, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead, but could not hold on to it and fell to 0-2 on the season.

A&M took the lead in the second when LaDale Hayes led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by Alton Ellison. The lead would not last long as the Cougars rallied for seven runs in the top of the third.  Five of the seven runs were unearned as the Bulldogs committed two errors in the inning.

Ellison collected two more hits on the afternoon, and Marcus Spencer drove in three runs with two hits including a double and a triple.

Chris Hernendez worked 2.2 innings in the start and was credited with the loss despite giving up just two earned runs. Chris Jennings worked 3.1 inning in relief, followed by A.J. Campbell (1.0), Jarvis Jordan (0.2), Juan Flores (0.1), Phillip Guthrie (0.2), and Kellen Toone (0.1).
