NASHVILLE, TN - The Alabama A&M baseball team recorded its first two victories of the season Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Kentucky State, 12-3 and 10-1. The Bulldogs pitching staff dominated most of the day including a combined one-hitter in game two between the efforts of Chris Hernandez, Bernard McKinney, and Fabian Harper. Chris Jennings posted his first career victory in game one as the Lee High School product struck out five in three innings of work.
GAME 1 - Alabama A&M 12, Kentucky State 3
Jennings struck out five from the mound, and the A&M offense pounded out five runs in the first inning to put the game out of reach early. Kency Duarte was 2-3 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Bernard McKinney worked three innings in relief, and Jarvis Jordan closed out the game for the Bulldogs.
A&M scored four more runs in the fourth as Harper, LaDale Hayes, Maverick Scott, Duarte, and Alton Ellison all recorded base hits. Scott's hit was the only single of the bunch as the Bulldogs had four doubles in the inning.
The win was the first of the season for A&M (1-2).
GAME 2 - Alabama A&M 10, Kentucky State 1
Hernandez, McKinney, and Harper combined to give up just one hit in the game, which was called in the bottom of the sixth due to darkness. The Bulldogs (2-2) took the lead for good in the second scoring three runs on three hits, including a double by Marcus Spencer. McKinney drove in a run with a single as well.
A&M added three runs in the third and then iced the game with a four-run fifth. Alton Ellison and McKinney each had RBI doubles in the fifth.
