Alabama A&M women's basketball point guard, Whiquitta Tobar, has been selected from a group of 250 applicants to participate in the Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad for study in Africa for five weeks during the summer. Tobar, an English Secondary Education and Political Science double major, was selected along with 14 other educators, for participation in the Fulbright program in Tanzania.
“In addition to the excitement of being among many people interested in broadening American education, and the excitement of traveling to Africa, I look forward to learning enough about a different culture to enrich the cultural perspective of my future students,” Tobar said.
The purpose of the trip is to increase linguistic and cultural competence among United States students and educators with the hopes of integrating international studies into the curriculum. Tobar will depart for Tanzania from June 16-July 22.
