NORMAL – Defensive lineman Frank Kearse was recently named to the Texas versus the Nation All-Star football contest to be held in San Antonio, Texas, on Feb. 5, 2011. The game is to be played at 1:00 pm (CST) on channel 613 on DirecTV and 195 if you have Knology.
Kearse complied four memorable years on “The Hill”. The 6-5, 325 pound, defensive tackle amassed 122 tackles, five passes defended, three forced fumbles, two fumbles recovered, a block kick, 44 games played, 7 sacks for 35 yards and 2 interceptions.
The Savannah, Georgia native participated in the Russell Athletic HBCU bowl which was played in Atlanta, Georgia on December 18, 2010 in the Georgia Dome.
Before the start of the 2010 season Kearse was named to the 2010 Preseason All-SWAC first team, 2010
Consensus Draft Services All-America team, and 2010 Football Championship Subdivision Senior Scout Bowl Preseason Football All-American second team.
Big Spoon, as he is referred to, is a Social Work major who has received academic honors throughout his A&M career and is on schedule to graduate in May of 2011.
Former Houston Oiler and Atlanta Falcons head coach Jerry Glanville will coach Team Nation against former Dallas Cowboy Bill Bates for Team Texas. UTSA head football coach Larry Coker will assist Bates with Team Texas.
The NFL Players Association Game will feature NFL draft-eligible senior college football players with connections to the State of Texas in an all-star game against players from all other states. Over 400 players who have played in the NFL Players Association Game have gone on to sign NFL contracts over the game’s four-year history.
The 2011 event will be the first time the game has been played in San Antonio after spending its first four years in El Paso, Texas. Kickoff is at 1:00 pm CST on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in San Antonio’s Alamodome. Tickets are on sale now at the Alamdome box office for as low as $10.
