A&M's Wilson earns CFPA honors

NORMAL – Alabama A&M’s kicker and punter, Chance Wilson, was recognized by the College Football Performance Awards for his accomplishments during the season finale versus Jackson State University.

Wilson earns his second collegiate honor of 2011 and his fourth overall by the CFPA. The junior kicker / punter hit two field goals, one for 49 yards a career long and broke an eight year Bulldog record once held by Rashad Cylar.  His second field goal was a 45 yarder that put A&M up 6-0 in the first quarter vs. JSU.

He also finished with six punts for 186 yards with two falling inside the 20 yard line. His longest was 47 yards.

The loss to the Tigers did not hurt A&M chances to participate in the league championship game.  Alabama State fell to Southern 26-23 the same day.  That loss keeps A&M and State tied for first place in the Eastern division of the conference with the Bulldogs holding the tie breaker.

A win over Prairie View A&M Saturday puts tenth year head coach Anthony Jones into his fifth Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game.
