HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Three days after being dominated by quarterback Deaunte Mason and company, Alabama A&M's defense bounced back Saturday.
Defensive coordinator Brawnski Towns' unit pitched a shutout during the 80-play scrimmage, forced four turnovers and came away with four sacks.
"That was Bulldog defense," Towns said.
A.J. Clark, a redshirt freshman, picked off a Mason pass and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown on the second possession of the scrimmage. That was the only scoring.
Former Sparkman High School standout Marcus Dozier intercepted a pass from third-string quarterback Chris Leachman later in the scrimmage. The Bulldogs dropped at least three more interceptions.
Vandrick Jackson and Ryan Jackson also came away with fumble recoveries.
Willie Fuller, Quintin Robinson, Dee Lett and Juwanza Vickers recorded sacks on the day.
Chance Wilson missed a 30-yard field goal on the third possession of the scrimmage that would have given the offense some points. In addition to the turnovers and sacks, the offense hurt itself with six penalties, including three holding calls and an illegal block.
