Magic Before the Classic: AAMU Band Part of Online Mini-Series

The Alabama A&M University Marching Maroon and White Band has entered an agreement with NBTV Online Live Media Network to create and perform in the first "Magic Before the Classic" mini-series. The first episode of the exciting series will air at 8 p.m. CST Thursday, October 4, on nbtv1.com. See mini-series TRAILER.

According to bandmaster Derrick K. Yates, filming began on August 5 at the start of the band's preseason camp, which will culminate with the first "Battle of the Bands" between the AAMU Band vs. Alabama State University Band in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Friday, October 26, the night before the Magic City Classic football game.

The agreement will net the program $125,000 over a five-year period, in addition to royalties from online sales. "This is the largest deal made on behalf of The Marching Maroon & White Band," Yates said, adding that part of his vision entails marketing the band program so that it works for itself. "I am truly excited about this deal. It is a major accomplishment for the band program and our great university.”

Funds from the deal, added Yates, will be used for musical instruments and a continuous band uniform drive.
