Bulldogs open SWAC play vs. Grambling State

NORMAL - The Alabama A&M men’s and women's basketball teams will take on the Tigers of Grambling State University in their first Southwestern Athletic Conference contests for both teams on Wednesday, January, 2 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

A&M women enter conference play having lost eight of their last nine games overall and hold a 1-9 record.

GSU enters league play after a 1-10 non-conference run with the lone victory coming against Stephan F. Austin on Dec. 1st.  JoAnna Miller leads the team with 12.4 points while Cierra Ceazer compliments that with 11.2 a contest. 

The last time these two teams met Grambling State rolled out to an early lead and held off Alabama A&M 73-68 in overtime to advance to the SWAC Tournament semifinals at the Special Events Center, in Garland, Texas.

In the Lady Bulldogs 2011-2012 season finale they suffered a 68-64 overtime loss to the Lady Tigers.

Currently NaDra Robertson leads the team with 8.5 points and 7.6 rebounds a game.

The men’s team is coming off their biggest victory in head coach Willie Hayes era, a 59-57 win over SEC opponent Mississippi State Sunday afternoon.

The win gave Hayes his most non-conference wins during his tenure with four.

Demarquelle Tabb leads the team with 12.4 points and 9.5 boards a contest.  Jeremy Crutcher has 11.3 points while Brandon Ellis holds a 10.1 average in 11 non-conference contests played in 2012.

Grambling bested A&M 75-72 in their last meeting on March 3rd.

The Tigers (0-9) are led by Tery Rose with 16.2 points a game.
