Bulldog family morns the passing of former coach

NORMAL – Former football head coach Theophilus Danzy Sr., passed away at the age of 82, on Nov. 28, 2012, at Trinity Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Danzy coached the Alabama A&M football team from 1977-1978 and achieved a 9-13 overall record.  His wins include victories over Bethune Cookman, Alabama State, Tuskegee, Central State, Morris Brown, Fisk University and Albany State.

In an article for Tuscaloosa magazine, he said he imagined that Stillman would be his last job coaching.

“In coaching, you are never without someone to mingle with,” Danzy told the magazine. “I like that. I'm getting philosophical, but I think it sustains life. This job gives me an opportunity to see the next morning with a challenge.”

Danzy was father to five, including Theophilus Danzy Jr., Loretta Huff, Sonia Thomas, Anthony Danzy and Jennifer Means.
Services will begin at noon on Wednesday, December 5th at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Schmitt Moore officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park with Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Services directing.

Viewing will be today from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
