Big Weekend in Bulldog Athletics

NORMAL – February 17th through the 20th will serve as the first multi-sport weekend in 2012 for Alabama A&M Athletics.
 
On Friday, Feb. 17, the 2011 Eastern Division champion Bulldog football team will open spring practice at 3:30 p.m. at the football practice facility.
Head coach Anthony Jones returns 11 starters on offense, six starters on defense and a number of specialists from last year's 8-4 team that lost to Grambling in the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game.
 
That same day the youngest Division I head coach in America, Michael Tompkins, will lead to A&M baseball team in their season opener against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.  The four-game series begins at 2 p.m.

The Bulldogs will continue the four game weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and conclude opening weekend on Sunday at 12 noon in a single nine-inning contest.  All games are free and will be played at Bulldog baseball field.
 
On Saturday, Feb. 18, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs basketball teams will host Southern University in pivotal conference match-ups.

The Lady Bulldogs enter the contest with an 12-10 overall record, and a 7-5 conference mark. The Altherias Warmley led squad is currently in fourth place in the SWAC standings. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
 
The Bulldogs currently hold a 5-16 overall mark, and a 3-9 SWAC record. A&M is currently holding the ninth position in the league standings. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
 
That evening at 7 p.m. the Lady Bulldog tennis team will host the Lions of the University of North Alabama at the Huntsville Tennis Center.   A&M is currently 2-3 on the year after five non-conference matches.  Admission is free. 
 
On Sunday, Feb. 19, the A&M softball team will open the 2012 season hosting Tennessee State University in doubleheader action.  All games during 2012 will be played at Lady Bulldog field.

Last season, A&M finished the year ranked fifth overall in the Eastern Division and a 4-26 overall mark.

The weekend will conclude on Monday, Feb. 20, when the Bulldog basketball teams host Alcorn State University in the WBCA Breast Cancer Awareness contest. 
 
All fans are encouraged to wear pink in recognition of all the breast cancer victims and survivors.
