Alabama A&M Athletics Earns Positive NCAA APR Report

NORMAL – Over half of Alabama A&M University varsity athletic teams scored well above the national cutoff standard of 930 in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) the NCAA announced Wednesday. In addition, five Bulldog teams posted scores that were the highest among their respective sports in the Southwestern Athletic conference.
"I am extremely pleased with the men's football team for the highest Football APR score in the conference," said AAMU Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks. "We will continue to place academics first with all of our coaches and student-athletes by having the expectation of continual improvement in all areas of academic achievement.”
The men's tennis team received public recognition from the NCAA for their APR score figuring in the top 10 percentile nationally among teams in those sports, with a perfect 1,000 APR.

The Maroon & White football team's APR led all teams in the SWAC, going to 937 this year. The men's basketball team moved up to a 902 four-year mark, which puts them 13 points above their 2009-10 score of 889. The women’s basketball and bowling teams posted the highest APR multi-year scores in the conference in their sport and continue to graduate their athletes with an A&M leading 99%.
Two teams, men’s track and volleyball, posted the second highest APR multi-year scores in their sports in the league.

None of the Alabama A&M 15 varsity sports incurred penalties.
The APR numbers released by the NCAA are based on amulti-year rate that averages scores from the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years. APR is calculated by assessing each scholarship student-athlete's retention and eligibility each semester. To receive a perfect score of 1,000 each team's student-athletes must meet the NCAA retention and eligibility guidelines.
