Six Bulldogs named to All-SWAC team

NORMAL – Six different Bulldog football players were named to the post season All-SWAC list.

Jonathan Dorsey, Robert Nelson, Barrington Scott, Montarius Smith, Lawrence Barnett and Derrick Harris.

The first teamers included Dorsey and Nelson. In his first season Dorsey posted 14 receptions for 294 yards and three touchdowns. Robert Nelson collected 100 tackles in 12 games played with 12 for a loss of 35 yards, a sack, three passes defended, three pass breakups, a quarterback hurry, a force fumble and a safety. Nelson tied the record for 17 tackles in one game versus South Carolina State.

In his lone year Barrington Scott led the team in rushing with 1,055 yards on 244 carries and seven touchdowns. Montaruis Smith led the team in receiving with career high 55 receptions for 771 yards and five touchdowns. Lawrence Barnett played one year of football on "The Hill" and tied for the lead with four interceptions for 39 yards, 45 total tackles, five for a loss of 24 yards, 12 pass breakups and a force fumble. Rounding out the all-conference team is Derrick Harris. The four year star posted 33 tackles, three for a loss of six yards, four interceptions for 32 yards, 14 pass breakups and a pair of fumble recoveries.

"Congratulations to the guys," said interim coach Cedric Pearl. "I'm glad and proud the SWAC recognized the guy's hardwork. The players did a great job for us this season."
