Softball Drops two to Belmont





NORMAL -- The Alabama A&M women's softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Belmont University today, losing 6-1 in game one and 10-4 in game two.

In game one Belmont jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the first inning. The visitors then tacked on two more runs, one each in the fifth and sixth inning.

A&M bats came to life as Raven Grubbs scored the Lady Bulldogs first and only run off a double down the left field line by LaQueesha Poe, in the bottom of the seventh.

Game two belonged to Bruins as they scored in five of the seven innings. The Bruins scored six runs in the first, one run in the second, fourth and sixth innings.

The Maroon and White tacked on runs in the second innings when Briana Zeigler singled down left field line to score Jasmine Riley and Melony Hill.

In the bottom half of the fourth Riley and Hill again scored two more runs, but this time it was off a homer from Hill.

Anisa Britt was the starting pitcher in game one. Britt struck out two batters, with four walks and allowed six hits out of the 23 batters she faced. Brown was the losing pitcher in game two for Alabama A&M.

Up next AAMU will travel to Longview, Texas, this Friday-Sunday, March 22nd -24th, for the annual Southwestern Athletic Conference softball roundup.

The three-day tournament will feature all ten teams from the Eastern and Western Divisions in the conference. First pitch is set for Friday, March 22nd at 4 p.m. against Texas Southern.
