Hornets claim AAMU Golf Classic

SCOTTSBORO – The Alabama State men’s golf team dominated both days of the 2013 Alabama A&M annual golf classic enroute to their victory at Goose Pond Colony.

The Hornets shot a 306 on the first day and 301 on the second in 43 degree weather to claim the trophy with a 607 team total. Arkansas Pine-Bluff shot a combined team score of 645 (327-318) while Morehouse College placed third with a team score of 653 (339-314).

The Hornets were led by Chris Wilson who posted the lowest score to earn the lowest medalist trophy with a 75 on the first day and a 71 on the second. Wilson was followed by Robert Grant of ASU who shot a 74 on the first day and 73 on the second.

Prairie View A&M, and Alabama A&M rounded out the top five, respectively.

“Unfortunately it was cold and snowed but we were able to get the tournament in,” said A&M head coach Josh Oliver. “We only had five teams due to the weather.”

“I was really pleased with the Goose Pond Colony staff, they did a fantastic job during the event,” Oliver recalled.
