172 Student-Athletes honored at AAMU Academic Honors Convocation

NORMAL – One hundred and seventy two Bulldog student athletes were recognized today at the Alabama A&M Ceremony of Academic Awards & Achievements.

The Bulldogs were represented by every sport A&M sponsors. The academic convocation is held every semester to honor and recognize all students who achieved honors status.

The Kenneth Gunn Outstanding Scholar Athlete award was presented to Jose Long. Long a senior, from the College of Engineering, Technology & Physical Science is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Manufacturing, has an impressive 3.7 GPA. He is a native of Madison, Alabama and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hossie and Vivian Long. Jose' has shown his diverse skills through academic excellence, athletic talent and a penchant for music (he plays trumpet).

His gifts in academics blessed him to become a proud recipient of an Alabama A&M Athletic Scholarship. Scholarly achievements include repeated recognition on both the Dean's List and Honor Roll, AAMU Student of the Week, and Vann Pettaway Male Student-Athlete of the Year 2013.

He is an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., who also loves to go fishing in his spare time. He plans to continue his education in Graduate School, ultimately earning a PhD.
