Normal, Ala. - Traditional powers and conference rivals highlight the 2013 Alabama A&M volleyball schedule.

On August 30-31, the Lady Bulldogs will open the season at the Purdue University tournament featuring Western Kentucky, the University of Southern California, and host Purdue in the Holloway Gymnasium.


The road stretch begins as the Maroon & White will participate in the University of Memphis tournament in Memphis, Tenn. on September 6-7. Then, they will travel to cross-town rival Alabama-Huntsville September 11.

"We have defeated UAH three times since I have been at the helm of the program so I know they will be ready for us this go round on their home turf," head coach Nedra Brown stated.

The journey continues in Springfield, Missouri for the Missouri State tournament on September 13-14, then Nashville, Tennessee on September 17, for a date with Tennessee State. The last stop of the whirlwind trip will be in Charleston, South Carolina, as A&M will participate in the College of Charleston tournament on September 20-21.

The Cougars competition will be highlighted by UNC Ashville, Southern Methodist, and host College of Charleston.
"Our nonconference schedule gives us a great opportunity to be tested early in the season and will prepare us for conference play," Brown said.

As part of divisional league play, the Lady Bulldogs will face Mississippi Valley, Jackson State, Alcorn State, and Alabama State twice during the regular season.

Southwestern Athletic Conference competition begins on the 27th of September, with Mississippi Valley hosting the Lady Bulldogs, then a turnaround trip with Alcorn State on Sept. 28.

The home league games will be few and far between with Jackson State visiting on Oct. 10. A&M will look to avenge a sweep in the 2012 championship game in the conference tournament. Alabama State will visit "The Hill" on the 18thand University of Alabama Birmingham will trek up Interstate 65 on Oct. 27.

"The Alabama State and Jackson State matches are always the must see events on our schedule," said head coach Nedra Brown.

Oct. 14 begins the longest road trip for A&M in 2013 with back to back trips to the Pimento State. South Carolina State will host the Lady Bulldogs on Oct. 14. Right across the street A&M will battle the Panthers of Claflin University.

The Maroon and White will visit Albany State on the 22ndof October, and travel to Jackson State on the 30th. A&M will close out the month of November with three home games and one on the road at Alabama State which host the interstate rival on Nov. 7.

The 2013 SWAC tournament is scheduled to be held Nov. 23-24 at a site to be determined.

"I will definitely say we are looking to return to the championship caliber squad we were," said Brown. "Last year we were humbled and learned from the loss."
