Ekpe & Long Earn Monthly SWAC Honors

Normal- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has a rich history full of great athletes. The SWAC prides itself on providing its athletes with opportunities to excel in the classroom as well as on the field or court. With that in mind, the SWAC would like to recognize student-athletes that have shown and continue to show promise in areas outside of sports.

This month two Bulldogs are being honored for their performance on and off the field. Because of their ability to balance a tough curriculum as well as a hectic game and practice schedule, junior Jose Long of the men's basketball team and junior Leslie Ekpe of the volleyball team have been named SWAC Student Athletes of the Month for January.

Long is a junior out of Madison, Alabama. He has been a member of the Bulldog basketball team since the 2010-11 season. This year, he is a leader defensively, who adds four points and four rebounds per game for the Maroon and White.

Ekpe is a senior academically and a junior athletically due to her sitting a year out due to injury. This past season, Ekpe helped lead her team to a Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship appearance. She finished the season with a team high 285 kills, and a second best 88 blocks (22 solo, 66 assists).
