Baseball opens season vs. IPFW

NORMAL -- Head coach Mitch Hill has been waiting on this day since he was named the leader of the A&M baseball squad.

That day is opening day on "The Hill as the Bulldogs baseball team will host Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne in their season opener on Friday, Feb. 14.

"We look to get off to a great start Friday," said coach Hill.  "The guys are anxious to start the season and get some competition other than themselves on the field."

Last season the Bulldogs first win of the year came on a 7-6 meeting with IPFW.  In 2012 AAMU opened with the Blue and Gray and took two of three games played.

Austin Hulsey and Patrick Dodson look to lead A&M as both were named All-SWAC in 2013.  Hulsey was named the freshman of the year by College Sports Madness.com after a .313 batting average, 57 runs and 10 doubles. Dodson led the team with a .330 batting average, 63 hits and 35 runs.  Both were chosen for the 2014 All-SWAC preseason team.

Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne will look to Tyler Shepherd who led the team with a .296 average, in 48 contests.  Shepherd connected on 53 hits and secured 22 runs.

This will be the Mastodons first game of 2014.

All home games will be played at the Bulldogs baseball field and admission is free.

The series will follow this format:

Game one Friday, Feb. 14, 12:00 p.m. Single Game Nine Innings

Games two & three Saturday, Feb. 15, Doubleheader 11:00 a.m. Nine Innings / 2:30 p.m. Seven Innings

Game four Sunday, Feb. 16, Single game Nine Innings
