Nunez goes yard in Bulldogs contest vs. Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – Julio Nunez hit his second homerun of the season in the Bulldogs midweek contest versus Auburn University.

The Tigers connected on six hits off of the Bulldogs to score five runs in the first inning.  In the top of the second A&M's Allen Smith led off with a single up the middle, and then advanced to second on a ground out from Justen Folger. The next two A&M batters walked to load the bases, when Brandon Crutcher hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Smith.

In the bottom of the second nerves calmed down a bit as the Bulldogs defense held the Tigers with two hits in the frame. In the top half of the third Julio Nunez went yard to left field to cut the Tigers lead 5-2. 

The bottom of the fourth saw Auburn score two runs, with A&M scoring their final run in the top of the eighth inning, as Patrick Dodson walked to first, then advanced to second. Folger then batted in Dodson to score the Bulldogs final run on the day.

Unfortunately for A&M Auburn would escape with a 7-3 win.

Nunez, Folger and Crutcher each recorded one RBI on the day, while Smith, Nunez and Jordan Friend posted a hit. Derrick Winters was credited with the loss as he pitched two innings, facing 11 batters.
 
The Bulldogs will continue its midweek road trip when they venture to Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday, February 27, to face Lipscomb University.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
