Lady Bulldogs’ rally comes up short in loss to Alcorn State

HUNTSVILLE – The Lady Bulldogs erased a 10-point deficit late in the second half Monday but couldn't take the lead in a 58-55 loss to Alcorn State.

The loss is the second straight for the Lady Bulldogs who fall to 3-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Alcorn State improves to 5-3.

With Just over 8 minutes to play, Alcorn State led 51-41 when A&M mounted its comeback attempt – going on a 12-2 run. With 1:50 to go, Brooke Dixon's layup tied the score at 53-53.

The Lady Braves led 58-55 with 3 seconds to play when Brittney Strickland's three-point shot hit the rim at the buzzer and bounced off.

Strickland led A&M with 21 points and Alganese Gatson had 13. Leading scorer Janie Myles was held scoreless, going 0 for 3 from the field.

Alcorn's Olivia Brown came off the bench and scored 22 points to lead all scorers.

The Lady Bulldogs were flat at the start, hitting just 6 of 23 shots for 26 percent shooting from the field in the first half while Alcorn shot 48 percent from the field.

A&M returns to action Saturday at Prairie View A&M and visits Texas Southern on Monday.
