QB race: Ballard No. 1, May No. 2

NORMAL -- Junior college transfer De'Angelo Ballard will be under center - well, behind center - Saturday when the Bulldogs take on Cincinnati in the season opener.

Ballard, a 6-foot, 200-pounder from Southwest Mississippi Community College, was tabbed as the starter by Head Coach James Spady.

Redshirt freshman Damion May, who missed much of the training camp with a medical condition, will be the backup.

However, Spady said May, also from Mississippi like Ballard, will get substantial playing time in the Bulldogs' pistol offense.

The Bulldogs visit the Bearcats in a 6 p.m. (central time) kickoff in newly renovated Nippert Stadium on the Cincinnati campus. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio and ESPN3 - http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/id/2637348/NCAAF-Alabama-A&M-vs-Cincinnati.

It will also be broadcast on WJAB-FM 90.9 radio.
