Bulldogs' rally falls short against Alabama State

HUNTSVILLE -- A late second-half push came up short for Alabama A&M Saturday night in a 74-68 loss to Alabama State.

The Bulldogs led 33-31 at the half on the strength of Nicholas West's 12 points and 11 points from Quinterian McConico.

A&M built up a 45-39 lead on a layup by West with 15:43 left in the game before the Hornets began their comeback.

A dunk by ASU's Bobby Brown tied the game at 49-all with 12:07 to go and the Hornets took command. They led 64-54 with 4:46 to play when the Bulldogs began to claw back.

With 59 seconds left, Ladarius Tabb hit a layup to bring the Bulldogs within three points at 69-66.

But ASU hit five free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

West and McConico each scored 18 points while West picked up 10 rebounds. Tabb finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

The Bulldogs host Alcorn State next Saturday. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
