HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--- The Alabama A&M University track & field head coach LaShaunda Jones has announced the hiring of Damien Brigham as the associate head coach for AAMU men's and women's track & field teams.

"I'm very excited to welcome Brigs to our track and field family here at Alabama A&M University," Jones said.  "Brigs brings an overabundance of skills and talents that will help our program become more efficient in recruiting, in the office as well as on the track.  He understands the conference since he ran at Jackson State University and has the ability to coach athletes on various levels.   Brigs will be a vital part of our future success as he has a proven record of working at top schools with NCAA championship visions."

Prior to arriving at Alabama A&M, Brigham served as the assistant coach for the men's and women's track & field program at Coastal Carolina. Prior to Coastal Carolina, Brigham was an assistant coach at Paramount High School in Paramount, Calif. While there he focused on developing training cycles for the sprinters, jumpers, and hurdlers, as well as weight room workouts and managing home meets.

During the 2014-15 seasons, he worked as a graduate assistant at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif. His emphasis was training sprints, relays, hurdle races, multi-events and horizontal jumps. Among his duties was the planning of training schedules and workout modules for individual athletes, along with preparing strategies, plans and programs for athletic improvement.

"I would like to first thank Coach LaShaunda Jones and the Alabama A&M University family for giving me the opportunity to join such a prestigious program and institution," Brigham said. "I am honored Coach Jones chose me to help build a program that she has already laid a great foundation for.I look forward to the program becoming a real powerhouse in the conference and also to help Coach Jones in everyday tasks to make sure Alabama A&M University track and field becomes one of the best programs in the nation."

From 2011-14, Brigham was an assistant track coach at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. While there his focus was training sprints, relays, hurdle races, multi-events and horizontal jumps, preparing strategies and programs to help student athletes improve.

Brigham previously served coaching stints at Paul Quinn College, Stillman College and at American International, coaching several All-Americans including Olympic representative Adolphus Jones and Meritza Williams. In 2008, he was responsible for starting the track program at Texas College in Tyler, Tex.

"Brigs has the personality that complements our University as well as our program as he knows all event areas of track and field, understands the business aspect and knows how to handle all the aspects of recruiting on this level," Jones said.  "I look forward to having him on my staff and to him helping us bring back our traditions."

The native of Dallas, Texas is a 2005 graduate of Jackson State where they were conference champions. He has competed professionally as a sprinter for Brooks Running Shoe Company and was a participant in the '03 and `04 Olympic trials and world championship trials. Brigham is the father of three daughters, Mckenna, Laila, and Mya.
