Spring Game to Kickoff at 11 a.m. Saturday at Louis Crews Stadium

HUNTSVILLE-- Alabama A&M head football coach Connell Maynor says spring practice has been a success regardless of what happens today in the Maroon and White Game. Kickoff is 11 a.m. at Louis Crews Stadium.

Maynor and his staff have had an opportunity to install their offense, defense and special teams plans while also evaluating the Bulldogs and determining their future needs as they try to make Alabama A&M a contender again in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

"I like where we are right now," said Maynor, who was hired two months ago.

"We've gotten a lot done in a short period of time. We've got some talent. We just don't have enough. We've got to continue to add players to have the kind of depth that we need to be successful."

The Bulldogs drafted the teams Thursday and Maynor says the rosters appear to be evenly matched.

"It should be a competitive game," he said.

Offensively, the Maroon team features quarterback Aqeel Glass, wide receivers Marceles Clash and Zabrian Moore and running backs Joseph Burke and Chester Williams. Defensively, ends Yurik Bethune and Zack Oglesby lead that unit, along with linebacker Elijah Timarky, and Dylan Hamilton, Mike Mills and Amari Holloway, who are expected to help anchor the secondary. Hamilton was a second-team All-SWAC defensive back a year ago.

Offensively, the White team features running backs Jordan Bentley and Trevon Walters, wide receivers Isaiah Bailey and Octayvius Miles and quarterback Dylan Smith. Defensively, linebacker Quantravis Kelly, cornerback Adrian Portlock, strong safety Rhomel Fields and tackle Tyrese Slaugther lead the way.

Seven players will miss the game due to injury, Maynor said, including All-SWAC defensive lineman Vernon Moland.
