Longhorns Sweep Bulldogs 5-1 and 9-3

A&M headed to SWAC Tournament this week

Game 1 Box / Game 2 Box / Alabama A&M battled the No. 6 team in the country, Texas, to a pair of tough losses Sunday, 5-1 in game one, and 9-3 in game two. The Bulldogs concluded their regular season in Austin and will head directly to Baton Rouge for this week's SWAC Tournament where the Bulldogs will face Southern in the first round on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The game will be carried live on WJAB-FM 90.9.

Chris Hernandez and Grant Mattix combined in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader to keep the high-powered Texas offense in check.  Hernandez took the loss on the mound giving up four runs in 2.1 innings. Mattix worked 3.2 innings and gave just one unearned run in that time. The pitching pair held the Longhorns to just eight hits. Chris Jennings scored the lone Bulldog run in the fifth on a Texas throwing error.

Hernandez was the offensive star in the nightcap with a two-run single as Alabama A&M collected just two hits in the game.  Kellen Toone took the loss for A&M, but was victimized by five Bulldog errors that led to the Texas 9-0 lead before A&M scored three in the top of the ninth.
