BATON ROUGE, La. - Alabama A&M concluded its dominance at the halfway point of the SWAC bowling race Sunday finishing the West Roundup with an 11-3 overall record and a 6-0 mark in division play. A&M posted the top three individual averages for the weekend. Addlieen Pointer led the way with a 212.9, followed by teammates Melanie DeCarlo (198.1) and Tiffany Clark (197.3).
Alabama A&M (11-3 overall, 6-0 division) did not have a divisional match on Sunday and went 2-2 overall on the day. Jackson State (8-6, 2-0) went undefeated in divisional play to strengthen its hold on second place. Alabama State (2-12, 2-4) maintained third place ahead of Mississippi Valley State (0-14, 0-5).
In the West, defending champion Southern (8-6, 4-2) had no divisional matches on Sunday and was joined at the top of the standings by Prairie View A&M (10-4, 4-2). The Lady Panthers were the only team to go undefeated on Sunday, with victories over division rivals Grambling State and Texas Southern as well as Jackson State and Alabama A&M. GSU (8-6, 2-4) and Texas Southern (9-5, 2-4) are tied for third in the West.
The eight conference teams that sponsor bowling are competing in the first of two Conference roundups to earn a berth in the 2010 SWAC Bowling Championship March 5-7 in Shreveport, LA.
The SWAC East Roundup, slated for Feb. 20-22 in Bessemer, AL, will determine the top three teams in each division that will qualify for the SWAC Tournament Field.
