THE HILL | Moses Davenport finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Alabama A&M University women's basketball team concluded its two-game homestand with an 84-45 loss to #12 Ole Miss on Friday night at the AAMU Event Center.
Davenport shot 8-of-15 from the floor to lead the Bulldogs with 18 points, 10 boards, one assist, one steal and one block.
Cotie McMahon went 7-for-11 shooting to finish with 20 points, two steals, one assist, one rebound and one block to lead Ole Miss. Christeen Iwuala added 15 points, on 7-of-10 shooting, along with seven boards, one assist and one steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (1-1) scored the first bucket of the game on a jumper by
Jaida Belton, but Ole Miss responded with a 9-2 run after a Christeen Iwuala layup with just over eight minutes to play in the opening quarter.
Both teams struggled from the floor over the next four-plus minutes before a Kayln Ervin triple closed the gap to 11-10 with 3:46 remaining.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Kaitlin Peterson snapped a stretch of five minutes without a field goal and sparked a 14-0 run to close the period as the Rebels took a 25-10 advantage into the second quarter.
Ole Miss (2-0) stretched the lead to 37-16 after a fastbreak bucket by Lauren Jacobs with just under four minutes left in the half.
The Bulldogs went nearly five minutes without a field goal toward the end of the quarter as a jumper by
Moses Davenport closed the gap to 39-18 at the break.
Ole Miss began the second half on a 16-2 run to extend its lead to 55-18 after a trey by Sira Thienou with 5:36 left in the third, and the Rebels added to the advantage after a J'Adore Young jumper extended the margin to 62-23 with just over three minutes to play in the period.

Amber Scott and a layup by
Aniya Palmer gave AAMU a spark heading into the final quarter as the Bulldogs trailed 66-30.
The Rebels opened the final period with six straight free throws and cruised during the final seven minutes to pick up the road victory.
