Cortez named SWAC Defensive Player of the Week

NORMAL - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has selected Rebecca Cortez, as SWAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Cortez gained the title after registering 11 digs for Alabama A&M University. Cortez recorded three digs against Western Kentucky, six at Purdue and two versus Southern California.

The San Antonio, Texas native is majoring in Exercise Science. "I didn't know that I was even nominated, I was so excited, I'm speechless," said Cortez.

Head Coach Nedra Brown was very excited for Cortez. Brown commented, "Cortez really stepped up for the team over weekend, she has tremendously improved in the libero position from last year."

A&M will play the University of Memphis on Friday, September 6; first volley is set for 1 p.m.
