Briana Cox has an outstanding spring and extended that into the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships during Thursday's opening day with a conference record in winning the hammer throw at A.W. Mumford Stadium.Â
Â
Cox, who broke her own school record multiple times this spring, didn't just want to own the school record, but the SWAC record as well.
Â
On her first attempt, she fouled but broke her own mark in the second round at 54.55m. In her third toss of the day, Cox shattered all her previous records, throwing a personal and school record mark of 56.72m to win the event. The Miami, Fla. native broke Faith Estelle's mark of 56.50m, which was set on May 3, 2019.
