It took Stillman nearly eight minutes to score its first points, and by then Alabama A&M had stormed to a 15-0 lead in its season opener. The Tigers though, would steady themselves and complete an improbable comeback to defeat the Bulldogs 80-72 in front of 1266 fans.

A&M led 33-27 at the intermission, but Stillman shot 63 percent from the floor in the second half and outscored AAMU 53-39.

Joe Martin led the Bulldogs with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Marcus Jones added 13 points, along with Michael Ford's 12 and Obie Trotter's 10. The Bulldogs, however, could not overcome 24 turnovers.

Rickey Gibson and Monyea Pratt led the Tigers with 23 and 20, respectively.
