Nine Wins -- First Time Ever for A&M

Nov. 19, 2005

Box Score

PRAIRIE VIEW, Tex. - It's official. For the first time in the history of Alabama A&M football, the Bulldogs have nine wins in a season. Nine other times the Bulldogs have reached eight wins, but with Saturday's 31-16 come-from-behind win at Prairie View A&M, AAMU has its ninth win.

The Bulldogs also have an outright claim to the SWAC East Division title and a berth in the December 10th SWAC Championship Game at Legion Field. The Bulldogs will attempt to avenge one of their two losses against Grambling, champions of the western half of the league.

Saturday's win did not come easy. Two Panther field goals were the only scoring in the first half as the Bulldog offense sputtered for 30 minutes.

Less than three minutes into the second half the sputtering stopped. Kelcy Luke and Tim Robinson connected on a 15-yard score to give AAMU the lead for good. Luke would add a one-yard TD run to push the score to 14-6.

The teams traded field goals in between the breaking play of the game as Luke hooked up with Anthony Mitchell less than a minute into the fourth quarter for a 70-yard score. Mitchell finished with just four receptions, but for 148 yards. Luke passed for 237 yards on 10-21.

The final Bulldog score came on an 88-yard interception return by Stephen Tucker.
