Alabama A&M converted a turnover into points on the first possession of the game and led 6-0. Grambling, however, answered with two first-half touchdowns to lead 12-6 at the intermission then dominated the second half en route to a 45-6 SWAC title game victory.
Johnny Baldwin recovered a fumble on Grambling's third play from scrimmage. Nine plays and 52 yards later, Nic Luke would give the Bulldogs the lead on a one-yard touchdown run. The point after was blocked, and AAMU led 6-0 at the 8:59 mark of the first quarter.
Tiger quarterback Bruce Eugene and the offense responded with a 10-play 71-yard touchdown drive. The score was a 12-yard toss from Eugene to Henry Tolbert. The two would connect on four touchdown throws on the afternoon. Grambling missed the extra point as well and the game was tied 6-6.
Alabama A&M would squander a scoring chance late in the first quarter when quarterback Kelcy Luke fumbled inside the 10-yard-line. It would be a trend the Bulldogs could not overcome throughout the day. A&M converted just once in three trips to the Grambling red zone and had three more drives stall inside the Tigers' territory.
The game stayed tied until Grambling converted a fourth and goal on a one-yard touchdown run by Ab Kuuan. The Tigers took a 12-6 lead into the lockerroom.
The third quarter proved to be a Bulldog nightmare. Grambling outscored AAMU 27-0 in the stanza and iced the game. Grambling would add a final score in the fourth quarter.
Emmanuel Edwards was named the Bulldogs' MVP for the game with six receptions for 77 yards. He also had one kickoff return for 30 yards. Jacques Pyant led the Bulldogs in rushing with 58 yards on just four carries. Nic Luke finished with 44 yards and the lone score. Kelcy Luke finished 18 of 34 for 187 yards and two interceptions.
Alabama A&M completes its season at 9-3, the only time in school history a Bulldog team has won nine games in a season.
