Trotter's 27 Not Quite Enough at Vanderbilt

Nashville, Tenn. - For 36 minutes the Alabama A&M men's basketball team handed Vanderbilt all it could handle, but the Commodores held the Bulldogs to just two points in the final four minutes as the hosts pulled away to a 74-58 win in Nashville. It was the first road game of the season for the Bulldogs, now 2-2 on the season. Vanderbilt moves to 6-1.

Obie Trotter was a one-man wrecking crew for A&M, scoring 27 points on 11-23 shooting, including 4-10 from behind the three-point arc. AAMU forced a scrappy game that saw Vandy commit 18 turnovers and 16 fast break points for Alabama A&M. Michael Ford chipped in with 12 points. Joe Martin, who leads the nation in rebounding, grabbed a game-high nine. The Bulldogs also blocked nine shots -- three apiece for Kudus Ogbara and Chris Collins.

Vanderbilt led 29-25 at the intermission and wore down A&M late in the game. Seven players played the bulk of the minutes for head coach Vann Pettaway. The Commodores owned a 41-29 rebound advantage.
