Montgomery, Ala. - Alabama A&M emerged from the darkness that was the Joe L. Reed Acadome for 17 minutes to take a lead midway through the second half, but the shooting fog that followed was too much for the Bulldogs to navigate in Alabama State's 81-68 victory Saturday. A power outage, the second of the game, near the midway point of the second half left the entire arena pitch black for a number of minutes with ASU leading by one point. When play resumed, A&M grabbed a one-point lead, its first since two minutes were gone in the game. That would be the final highlight for A&M as the Hornets closed the game on a 25-11 run. Michael Ford notched his first career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
When the first power outage hit, late in the first half, A&M trailed 36-21. The stoppage seemed to allow the Bulldogs to collect themselves and build the momentum for a comeback. Joe Martin and Obie Trotter sparked the surge that eventually got the lead back for just a moment for AAMU. That lead would not last and there wasn't another surge. Martin finished with a team high 18 points. Trotter added 17.
The Bulldogs gave up 17 offensive rebounds and 26 second chance points in the contest. Rebounding was the difference as ASU finished with a 41-30 edge.
