Obie Trotter scored 30; Michael Ford scored 29; Joe Martin scored 17. Texas Southern scored 75. For the second game in a row, Alabama A&M looked like the defending SWAC champion in a 99-75 victory over the visiting Tigers. The 29 points by Ford was a career high. Trotter also had seven steals and seven assists.

Texas Southern stormed to a 32-23 lead, only to be answered by a 17-0 run by the Bulldogs that iced the game. A&M pulled away to a 54-39 lead at the half with the final three points coming on a Trotter 40-footer at the buzzer.

A&M's defense forced 30 turnovers and 41 points off those turnovers in the win.
