Playing in front of a national television audience on ESPN2, Alabama A&M stormed to a lead as big as nine points in the first half. The Bulldogs executed their game plan to near perfection in the first half and led 38-32 at the break. The second half was all Alabama State. Buoyed by A&M's inabilty at the free throw line, the Hornets outscored A&M 48-36 in the second stanza and left Elmore Gym with an 80-74 victory. The Bulldogs shot just 10-24 from the line. Michael Ford scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead A&M.
Obie Trotter struggled from the field shooting just 6-18 and scored 16 points. Trotter did finish with six assists and four steals. Chris Collins made his best effort of the season scoring 12 points on 6-10 shooting.
Alabama State was led by Andrew Hayles' 16 points, including 3-3 from behind the three-point arc. The Hornets held a 48-41 rebounding advantage.
