With the rain moving through the night before, the Bulldogs were given some gorgeous Birmingham weather to play in; however, the Bulldogs of Samford seemed to be the `dogs' who enjoyed the sun the most. The host Samford Bulldogs drubbed the visiting Alabama A&M Bulldogs, 7-0.

"We've got some injuries in our line-up right now and that's hurt us in some non-conference matches," commented coach Thomas Colvin. "I'm not making any excuses about this match. We were simply outplayed by a solid team. We really need a healthy lineup going into the homestretch of the season."

Samford got out early by winning the doubles point and never looked back. In singles, A&M's long bright spot was the first set match at #2 singles where Shingie Nyagura took a first set win in a tie-break.

"I know we're better than this. We've just got to put on the courts the talent that I know we have."

On Saturday, the Bulldogs got a chance to play some of the previous days frustration out of their system. A&M hosted SWAC opponent Mississippi Valley State at the A&M courts.

Willis Mbandi sat out the day and Adande Piggott only played doubles, both nursing injuries; however, their Bulldogs teammates didn't let them down as they secured a 7-0 win over the Delta Devils.

"We had to mix the line-up because we had some bodies missing," coach Colvin said. "The good thing is that we got a chance to let some of the new players get some match time."

Lee High School's Jamal Turner and Joseph Bradley got their first opportunity to play at home.

"Both of these guys have made some solid progress in a short period of time. They are hard workers who want to be better. I'm glad they both got wins here."
