Ladies Play Solid at Home Despite Lingering Weather Problems

The skies looked a lot different as the Lady Bulldogs took to the courts against the Lions of UNA. A mere 12 hours earlier, the entire area was in the midst of a series of violent thunderstorms. Early on Saturday morning, it looked like the Ladies would miss out on their second match in as many days. Fate seemed to step in to clear the skies and dry the courts and the Lady Bulldogs responded by defeating the Lady Lions 5-2 at Dublin Park in Madison, Ala.

The number 1 and 2 doubles teams looked to be focused and eager to play the role of inhospitable host as they both rolled to strong wins, giving the Lady Bulldogs the doubles point with 8-3 and 8-2 wins respectively. The win moves the doubles tandem of Charlene Tsangamwe and Batsirai Bvunzawabaya to a team leading 16-4 mark, just barely ahead of the team of Monique Jones and Shaniek Pinder who are at 14-5.

"Our doubles play sets the tone for singles for us," commented Lady Bulldogs coach Thomas Colvin. "The ladies played solid today and got a win against a very good UNA team."

In singles, the Lady Bulldogs only surrendered 2 points as they took numbers 1-4.

Charlene Tsangamwe got a 6-3, 6-3 win at #1 singles while Shaniek Pinder slowed in her second set but was able to hang on for a 6-1, 7-5 win at #2. Monique Jones, playing #3, managed her match and got a 6-1, 6-4 win and Batsi Bvunzawabaya pulled out a 7-5 tiebreak to take the first set, then rolled through the second, 6-1 for her win.

The Ladies will play Alabama State on Monday, Savannah State on Tuesday, and will end the regular season with Tennessee State on Wednesday.
