Streak Snapped! Baseball Defeats Alcorn 8-6

April 8, 2006

Box Score

Officially, Kevin Collins got a no-decision on the mound Saturday for Alabama A&M. If there was a game ball to deliver after the Bulldogs' first win in 13 games, though, Collins was the derserving recipient. His starting performance lasted seven innings giving up just three runs with a 25-mph wind blowing straight out to center field at the Bulldog Baseball Complex.

Leaving the eighth and ninth inning to Joshua Swain, Collins left the game with a 5-3 lead, but the Braves would tie the game in the eighth. AAMU added three runs in the bottom of the inning and held on for the 8-6 win in the ninth. Swain earned the victory.

A&M opened the scoring in the second when Turner Washington singled with two outs and then scored on LaDale Hayes' double. Alcorn would tie the game in the top of the third, but again A&M took the lead in the third when Wigberto Flores singled in two runs.

The teams would exchange two more runs before Alcorn tied the game in the eighth. A&M sealed the victory with three in the bottom of the eighth. Bryan Evans drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give the Bulldogs the lead, and then A&M scored two runs on a throwing error by Alcorn.

The Braves would answer with a run in the ninth and threaten to tie, but Kenneth Townsend made an over-the-shoulder catch in right field with the bases loaded for the final out of the game.

The two teams will play a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon.
