The 28th ranked Lions of North Alabama flexed some muscled and held true to their national ranking by downing the Bulldogs, 0-7.
The doubles matches started with the Bulldogs playing strong and aggressive. The number 3 team of 'lefties' Adande Piggott and Lee James fought their way to a 5-4 advantage, but were not able to maintain the lead and fell 5-8. At #2 doubles, the Bulldogs never seemed to be in the match and went down 2-8. The Bulldogs did manage to win at #1 doubles, 9-8, behind some stellar play by seniors Sammy Muriuki and Willis Mbandi.
In singles, the Lions of UNA were able to put power and placement on display and take all 6 of the singles matches. Both Mbandi and Piggott put forth galiant efforts, but neither was up to their normal level of play. Senior Sammy Muriuki was forced to retire at 1-1 in the first set after suffering an ankle injury.
The Bulldogs will meet Alabama State on Monday at Dublin Park, and Tennessee State on Wednesday at home for the final match of the regular season.
