Final Stats
LaNorris Smith scored a game-high 16 points, including 4-7 from behind the three-point arc, and Mickell Gladness tied his career high and the school record for blocked shots with nine, yet the Bulldogs fell Saturday 59-58 at home to Alcorn State. Cornell Landry's layup with :36 remaining gave the Braves the victory.
Alabama A&M's attempts to take the lead after Landry's score failed as Trant Simpson's three-point shot with :10 remaining came up short. A&M's Johnnie Brown grabbed the rebound, but his outlet pass to LaNorris Smith was bobbled and Alcorn secured the loose ball with :04.6 left.
The Bulldogs fouled immediately and sent Landry to the free throw line where he missed both shots. After another loose ball, the Bulldogs ended up with one final chance to go the length of the court with :00.6 remaining. Cornelius Hester's inbounds pass was intercepted, and the Braves escaped.
Evan Hilton and Brown both scored 11 points for A&M. Gladness added nine rebounds, and Simpson had five assists.
The Bulldogs are now 6-11 overall and 1-5 in the SWAC.
Alcorn State was led by Landry's 14 points. Delvin Thompson added 11. The Braves committed 26 turnovers, but outrebounded Alabama A&M 51-33.
