Montgomery, Ala. -
Alabama A&M's seven-point halftime lead evaporated Saturday with 20 second half turnovers as Alabama State handed the Bulldogs their first SWAC loss of the season, 76-62. The Bulldogs led by as many as 12 on two occasions, but a 23-4 Hornet run over a 10-minute span in the second half was too much to overcome for AAMU. Tamika Green led A&M with 15 points.
The Bulldogs built a 39-27 lead with 2:32 remaining in the first half on the hot shooting of Rebekkah Barnes. Barnes finished 4-9 for 10 points on the evening. The Hornets, though, scored the final five points of the first half and carried that momentum into the second half.
Alabama A&M scored 21 points off the bench in the first half, but managed just two from its reserves in the second. The Bulldogs scored just six field goals in the second half.
Christian Malone added 13 points and four assists for A&M.
Alabama A&M is now 15-8 overall and 11-1 in the SWAC.
