Final Stats
After starting the season 4-0 on the road, both Mother Nature and Tennessee Tech gave the Bulldogs a rude greeting to their home field Wednesday as the Golden Eagles pounded out 17 hits en route to a 14-3 victory. The game was shortened to seven innings because of extreme cold and wet field conditions. Wigberto Flores provided most of the offensive highlights for Alabama A&M, going 2-3 with a run scored. The Bulldogs collected seven hits as a team.
A&M starting pitcher Myron Clark (1-1) lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up 10 runs on 11 hits. Eight of those runs were earned. The Golden Eagles opened the scoring with a five-run second inning. The first five batters reached base as Tech collected six hits in the inning. TTU added two unearned runs in the third before Josh Goodwin hit a three-run homer in the fourth to put the game out of reach. The Golden Eagles tacked on two runs in both the fifth and sixth.
Alabama A&M's first score came in the fifth when Jason Harrison tripled off reliever Joshua Rider. Harrison was the first batter Rider faced as Tech's Adam Liberatore (1-0) worked scoreless through 4.1 innings and earned the victory on a scorer's decision. Jermika Sigler knocked in Harrison with a ground out to shortstop.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth as Flores doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Alton Ellison. LaDale Hayes tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
The game was the season opener for Tennessee Tech.
