Kevin Collins was masterful in a three-hit shutout in the first game of a SWAC doubleheader Friday at Bulldog Field. Alabama A&M won the opener over Alcorn State 4-0 behind Collins' gem. He got all the run support he would need in the first inning when Turner Washington capped a two-out rally with an RBI single, scoring LaDale Hayes, who had singled earlier. Hayes provided A&M's only run in the second game, a home run to left field to tie the game at one, but the Braves pushed across three runs in the top of the sixth for the 4-1 victory.

Collins took a perfect game to the fifth inning in game one before a lead-off bunt single broke up the no-hitter as well. Still, the junior tossed the first A&M shutout in over two years moving to 2-0 on the season. The last shutout by the Bulldogs came in March of 2005 vs. Stillman.

In the nightcap, Antione Williams went 5.1 innings giving up just three earned runs and seven hits, but the offense went silent in the second game with Hayes providing the lone highlight.
