Bulldogs Repel Deja Vu, Stay Alive in SWAC Tournament

April 27, 2007

Final Stats

Baton Rouge, La. - It was nearly deja vu for the Alabama A&M softball team, this time in an elimination game at the SWAC Tournament. Earlier in the day, A&M dominated Mississippi Valley only to have the Delta Devils win the game on a walk-off three-run homer. Arkansas-Pine Bluff nearly did the same thing in the final game of the day, but the Lions were only able to tie the game in the seventh, and AAMU rallied for the win behind Debra Borcherding's offense and pitching in the eighth. Alabama A&M won the game 4-2.

Borcherding's RBI single in the eighth gave the Bulldogs the lead.  She then scored on a wild pitch to give A&M the winning margin.  In the bottom of the inning she struck out two of the Lions hitters before recording the final out on a fly ball to left field.  The all-SWAC pitcher gave up just three hits for Alabama A&M.

The Bulldogs took the 2-0 lead in the fourth on Brandy Harrell's two-run homer.

The win keeps the Bulldogs alive in the SWAC Tournament.  A&M will play Jackson State on Saturday in an elimination game at 10:30 a.m.
