Offensive Spark Not Enough for Bulldogs, Drop 5-2 to Southern Miss

Sept. 23, 2007

Final Stats

Alabama A&M gave Conference-USA member Southern Miss all it wanted Sunday at the Bulldog Soccer Field, including an offensive punch that has been missing most of the season. The Golden Eagles, however, scored two goals in the final 27 minutes to put away a 5-2 victory over the Bulldogs.

LaTisha Davis tied the game in the 37th minute after the Bulldogs gave up an own goal to give Southern Miss the lead in the 23rd minute.  Davis knocked in a 15-yards from the right side on an assist from Racquel Johnson.

The tie would not last long. USM took only 23 seconds to regain the lead on a break-away goal.  A penalty kick 48 seconds later gave the Golden Eagles a near immediate two-goal lead.

Alabama A&M cut the lead to 3-2 on a PK by Ledile Matjekane at the 68:06 mark.  Again, Southern Miss answered with two quick goals, one at 76:31 and the final score at 80:18.

The Bulldogs fell to 1-6-1 on the season.
