Montgomery, Ala. - Katrich Williams tied a career high with 21 points, 16 of which came in the final three minutes of regulation and overtime Saturday to lead Alabama A&M to a comeback victory over Alabama State 71-69 at the Acadome. The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with 4:14 remaining in the extra period and never again trailed to move to 4-1 in the SWAC and 6-8 overall.
An anemic first half saw the Bulldogs shoot just 27 percent and score just 15 points as the Hornets led 28-15 at the break. It took all 20 minutes of the second half for the Bulldogs to tie it.
Led by Williams and Christian Malone, who finished with 14 points and a career high 10 rebounds, A&M finished the final 3:48 of regulation on an 11-1 run. Alabama A&M had a shot at the end of regulation, but Felicia Drummond's 10-footer rimmed out.
Drummond, recovering from a week-long battle with the flu, had 14 points, as did Ashleonte' Samuel.
Erica Lumpkin and Shantae Robinson led the Hornets with 16 points apiece. Tanika Jackson had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Alabama State falls to 5-10 and 2-3.
