Gladness Lone Bright Spot in Loss at Southern

Baton Rouge, La. - Alabama A&M senior center Mickell Gladness was the lone bright spot Saturday as the Bulldogs dropped their fourth straight game and ninth in their last 10, 65-49 at Southern. Gladness notched his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. It is the third straight game he has scored in double figures. He also added five blocked shots.

After battling the Jaguars to a tie score at 28 for the first 17 minutes of the game, Southern closed the first half on a 12-1 run and took control of the game. The Bulldogs got no closer than the halftime score in the second half, and trailed by as many as 22.

A&M got eight points off the bench from LaNorris Smith, but no other Bulldog scored more than six. Southern outscored A&M 27-15 in points off turnovers.

Chris Davis led the Jags with 18 points.

The loss drops A&M to 1-5 in the SWAC and 4-12 overall. The Bulldogs will face Alcorn State on Monday night.
