Alabama A&M opened a double-digit lead three minutes into the game and easily won its first conference road game in almost two years with a 94-61 victory over Grambling State Monday night. The win not only snaps a five-game losing streak for the Bulldogs, but it is also the first conference road win for them since Feb. 26, 2006 against Texas Southern.
After Grambling scored the first two points of the game, Alabama A&M responded with 12 consecutive points to break the game open. The Bulldogs led by as many as 24 points in the first half and led the Tigers 53-35 at intermission. The Bulldogs continued to dominate over the final 20 minutes. Alabama A&M held Grambling to just two made baskets over the first 12 minutes of the second half as the lead ballooned to 30 points. In the final minutes, the Bulldogs led by 38 points, the largest lead of the night.
The Bulldogs had four players record double figures including Trant Simpson and Desmond Jackson who scored 15 points each, Evan Hilton added 12 points and John Smith scored a career-high of 11 points. The Bulldogs scored 33 points off of 30 Grambling turnovers and added 20 second chance points off of 15 offensive rebounds.
