Nov. 6, 2008

Itta Bena, Miss. - Belinda Kanda scored an unassisted breakaway goal in the 81st minute to cap a comeback win for Alabama A&M, 2-1, over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first round of the SWAC Tournament. The Bulldogs needed two second half goals after the Lions led 1-0 at the half. Celeste Roberts tied the game for A&M in the 61st minute with an unassisted goal. The Bulldogs, defending SWAC champions, advance to play the winner of tonight's opening round game between Jackson State and Prairie View A&M.

Kanda's goal was her 13th of the season, and her seventh in the last four games. Roberts' goal was her seventh on the season to move in front of LeTisha Davis for second place on the team.  Racquel Johnson made two saves, both in the second half, to secure the victory in goal.

The win pushes Alabama A&M's overall record to 7-9-2 and its unbeaten streak to four games.
